The Nursery #1 - Preparing the room

Hello again, i'm back! After a little while, i'm able to continue my blogging, with good news and a lot of new projects to share. The big news is that we have a baby!!

We didn't know what we were having, we wanted it to be a surprise for the birth day, and it wasn't that difficult as everybody was thinking, the phrase i heard the most during my pregnancy was "Are you kidding? how can you not know? I wouldn't be capable of that!" Well, the reason I was so comfortable not knowing, is that I already knew... I was sure it was a boy, have dreamed it a lot of times, so I wasn't even intrigued. So you can imagine my surprise when our little girl finally arrived! I've been blessed. It's been a big shock, but after I got used to the idea, I started imagining all the projects we are going to make together! The doll house, and the little kitchen from a TV rack, all kinds of home made barbie stuff... and maybe a fire fighter's truck, who knows? Her name is Lia and i'm absolutely in love with her. She is now six weeks old, and though it's difficult to find the time to write, i'l be sharing with you all the projects for her nursery. (So lucky we went gender neutral LOL)

So this is her room, before. Of course, we needed an office, so the extra room looked like this:

This is where the magic used to happen. (Now I have my desktop in one corner of the living room and I totally love it here!) I have to admit, my table is not always this organized... I correct myself: it's never organized, this was just for the picture!! I tend to have a big mess, but that's a good thing, apparently messy desktop people are found to be very creative! ;)

This is Abir's desktop. He is also a very creative guy, but he must be the exception, because no matter what, his table always looks like this!!!

The window was one of the tasks we needed to accomplish in order to declare the room ready. From this window my baby will see amazing sunsets over the city, I absolutely love the view!

So this is me, six months pregnant, so happy with my belly, trying to get rid of all the sticky thingies on the window.

Here you see the before and after, dirty and with the sticky stuff, and then cleaner... not new, but this is what we have. And i think it's good enough for a rental.

And here's Abir doing the hardcore cleaning. (my hero!)

I bought a black roller drape with a twist. I wanted it to look modern and at the same time be practical. So this drape gives me the option to turn the room completely dark without having to open the window, something I was worried about since it's very windy up here. (and if the baby is asleep, it's also less noisy)

I have my very own handy man. <3

So now I'm about to tell you about the colour... remember this? Yes, it's the same colour we used in Pinsker in the kitchen. Remember it had to be a gender neutral room, right? So we decided to go neutral untill the end. We already had the paint at home, so this was like for free. Check out the original post here!

I wasn't so sure about starting to prepare the nursery so early on, you know, you hope for the best, but you never know what can happen. In my country most of the pregnant couples don't buy anything until almost the birth, or even until after the baby is born. For me, in a practical sense, that's crazy! but it has a good point. Anyway, we are positive, and i'm glad we started this early, because painting a room is not always easy, and with my little belly and feeling generally more tired, it was a heavy task, and i'm glad I could do it myself instead of paying someone.

So, the room is ready!! In my next post I'll start showing you the furniture. Every piece came from the street or second hand. It's not that i'm so cheap... but what's the fun in just buying stuff? I'm always happy to find pieces I can refresh, and i'm sad when I don't have the space at home or the need for them. So this was the perfect excuse to use old pieces. (and, let's be honest, if we can save lots of money, why not?)

Thanks for your visit! Feel free to comment, share, subscribe, and even show me your own projects!
