WHO AM I
Hi, my name is Fabiana and I am a natural born designer and do-it-yourselfer. I was born and raised in Uruguay in the early eighties, in a family of creative and mad dreamers. There were simpler times, and while not missing a hot meal on the table, I did not receive many expensive toys. Besides, typical of that time, me and my brother used to play outdoors a lot. We climbed the trees and made mud dolls.
I never realized that I didn’t have expensive toys. I spent my days drawing and creating all that we could not afford. At 7 I copied a board game that looked like Monopoly, where instead of buying properties you had to purchase furniture to equip a house. Full photocopied and painted a deck of cards, a game only sold overseas, and as every entrepreneur, at 10 years old I was selling lemonade at the street or small crafts with a friend at her summer home.
I always loved design and was good at drawing. As expected, I studied architecture, and have supplemented with industrial design courses that I found very exciting. After graduated, I found the harsh reality of a country in crisis where getting a steady job was a challenge. As everyone in that side of the world, I had to become a "one man band", doing a bit of everything to make ends meet. I designed logos, commercial spaces, worked as a draftsman for several architects and interior designers, and as an architect in a light construction company, where I learned all the secrets of Drywall and then opened my own company. I was also experimenting with lighting design, another passion of mine.
But in 2010 I needed to make a change in my life, and with my inseparable dog Uma, I moved to Israel. I was then reunited with many of my childhood friends, and my brother who had moved several years earlier. It was the right decision, I felt at home.
Shortly after arriving I met Abir, my husband; a great man, my best friend. Besides working in an architect’s office, and then for a marine engineer, I resumed with GLOW, my own lighting product; and continued doing lots of projects for our home, or just for fun. For the last few years I’ve been documenting my projects, and now I’ve decided to share them with you. From inexpensive improvements to rented apartments, baby clothes for my nephew or props for my wedding, I'm writing a blog to tell you how I managed to improve the environment with little money and lots of love.
Thank you for joining me, and I hope you enjoy it!
