This is our first furnished and not so promising rented apartment, which we were more than happy to fix, for the relationship between location and rent. The Kitchen was a complete disaster, and we were about to say no, but the owner mentioned they were making new kitchen cabinets. Landlords in general won't do these things, but this was a special one. We would be happy to pay a little extra if they asked, but they didn't. So after their carpenter made a visit, we started cleaning and painting.
Check out the "before" complete post here.
I asked for a wider and black counter top and i got it!! We moved the fridge outside the kitchen because it was too big, and also changed it, that's a funny story, but it will be in another post. We also painted the cabinets under the window, the door went from what i call "19th-century-mental-institution-brown" to fresh white, and we cleaned as nobody did in the last... forever.
I also painted the big wall with a nice earthy tone that would contrast with the white tiles and shelves, and hanged the colorful collage-art i made at my first single apartment, link here.
The living room was big enogh, very bright and had also it's potential.
We took the tall and narrow shelves you see here, and put them in the kitchen. We bought two bookshelves for my book collection that was being shipped from Uruguay, that's why it's empty in these pics. We covered the sofa with a fun fabric, and the chairs too. The overall look is brighter and cleaner. Starting to shine!
The bedroom, what a nightmare! We painted walls and wardrobes, and cleaned every bit of it. The results are sweet!
You can see what we did with the trunk in the next picture, and how i transformed this TV Rack.
We made the office in the room that used to be a balcony. At first the windows were made of wood, very old, heavy and noisy in windy days. The landlord changed them all when we signed for the second year. Big improvement!
Last but not least, the bathroom. We covered the countertop, changed the mirror and the courtain and added a white light. Of course, a lot of cleaning too!
Just the mental institution brown from the doors susbtituted by fresh white, makes a huge difference. Never underestimate a layer of fresh paint!
There was a wardrobe at the entrance, that suffered also a big transformation. I regret not taking pictures of the last stage, but here is one of the progress. We used the same paint as in the bedroom. The upper shelf would store the bottles we needed to recycle.
After a while we added a sort of bench/storage instead of the lower shelf, and eliminated the hooks above, to use them like you see in the next picture. The pallet rack was ideal for the entrance, and the lower piece, which was designed for shoes, was used to store water bottles.
I hope you liked the apartment, we were so happy while living there, that we decided to move to the next level and get married. After two years in Pinsker and as newlyweds, we moved to a new adventure, that you'll discover in my following posts.
Thank you for reading! did you do any makeovers?
I'd like to see it!
